Bachelor of Theology Honours

GWC’s Bachelor of Theology Honours enables you to develop advanced exegetical, theological, and ministry skills, preparing you to serve meaningfully and effectively in a variety of contexts within the church and wider society.

Full-time: 1 year (minimum) ׀ Part-time: 3 years (maximum) ׀ NQF Level 8 ׀ SAQA ID 98789

Overview

The Bachelor of Theology Honours (BTh Hons) builds on the Bachelor of Theology degree by offering deeper study and specialisation in three key areas of Christian theology: Old Testament, New Testament, and Christian Doctrine. Each year, students also take an additional module selected from areas such as Church History, Pastoral Theology, Missiology, Homiletics, or Ethics.

As part of the programme, students complete an Issues Paper (mini-dissertation) on a topic approved by the Research Committee, allowing them to engage in focused theological research.

Modules are taught by a combination of GWC faculty and local and international guest lecturers, all specialists in their fields. Through the BTh Hons programme, graduates develop:

  • Both broadened and deepened knowledge, to respond to the challenges of our world with Bible-based and theologically robust answers.
  • Skills to pursue independent research.
  • An ability to think critically about methodology, theory, and praxis.
  • Enhanced presentation skills, both written and orally.

Our final intensive as Honours students was on the Doctrine of Revelation, and the passion and desire of our phenomenal lecturers, Drs Dick and Caroline Seed, for us to understand Revelation biblically is something that really stood out for me. My studies have increased my joy in understanding the sufficiency of Scripture and why preaching Christ and him crucified is fundamental to a healthy approach to proclaiming the gospel. I am forever thankful to the Lord for an opportunity to study such profound truths. To God be the glory!
