What we believe

At GWC we believe that God has revealed himself and his plan for the human race through the prophetic writings of the Bible’s Old and New Testaments, and ultimately by becoming a man in the person of Jesus Christ.

At the heart of this plan is God’s establishment of Jesus Christ as Lord and King of his Universe through his sin-bearing death and death-defeating resurrection. Jesus commanded that this be communicated to people of all nations that they might believe and be saved, before his coming again to rule visibly, gloriously and for ever.

Salvation is by Christ’s grace alone, and is received by faith alone. Believers become members of Christ (“in Christ”) and this determines their fundamental corporate identity, transcending all differences of nationality, race, gender and class. As Christians, we are one body in Christ and individually children of God and brothers and sisters to each other.

GWC’s founding denomination is REACH-SA (Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church of South Africa) and we enjoy a strong partnership with this denomination, serving to train and equip a number of candidates for ministry within this fellowship of churches. In God’s kindness, REACH-SA’s churches have grown from a handful of congregations to approximately 150 churches across South Africa today. There are also a number of REACH churches in neighbouring countries. While GWC’s student body is denominationally diverse (approximately 40% are REACH-SA students and the remaining 60% come from a variety of other denominations), the teaching and learning that takes place at GWC falls within the central features and practices of REACH-SA. The denomination’s Presiding Bishop (currently The Most Rev. Dr. Siegfried Ngubane) also serves as the College’s Chancellor.
